In line with completing NIN’s requirements’ resolution and and Network Architecture plan, the resolution for “Protecting Children and Teenagers in Cyberspace” was approved by the SCC in May 2021.
This resolution is among the top-level policies in Iran, and is in force regardless of the government’s position.
In this legislation, a child or teenagers refers to any person under the age of 18 who is within the jurisdiction of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they can be considered the most important target of this legislation. This plan aims to create a protected environment (a space on NIN where access levels are defined based on age, gender, cultural, and social characteristics of the audience) for children and adolescents. Producing content in Persian and compatible with Iranian/Islamic culture is one of the goals of this legislation. Accordingly, children and teenagers who are non-Muslims or those who cannot speak or read Persian are excluded from the target audience of this network. In addition to this, the resolution emphasizes the creation of a platform on the NIN that is separate from the internet and where content is made available to the audience in a controlled manner.
